This has been a long time in the making.
It’s been so long that when I started my online business in 2008, I had no idea this was where that path would take me.
Fast-forward to today, and as the French poet and novelist Victor Hugo said: “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.”
About Women, Wisdom, & Wealth
Women, Wisdom, & Wealth was born out of my desire to have more in-depth conversations with women about their beliefs about money, what they were taught, and how that impacted their lives.
Then we’ll talk about what’s changed (if anything) and any words of wisdom they’d like to share with other women.
More specifically, I want to have those conversations with women 40+ years old (I’m GenX). There’s no lack of professional women in finance or with backgrounds in finance to follow, but this was driven mainly by my desire to understand the psychological side of money as it relates specifically to women.
I’ve also been hugely inspired by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ podcast, Wiser Than Me (a must-listen for any woman). I love listening to her conversations with iconic women, where they discuss life, careers, beauty, business, relationships… all of it.
Every episode leaves me wanting more.
One of my favorite questions (and answers) from her conversation with Gloria Steinem was when she asked Gloria what she felt was her greatest contribution to feminism.
Her answer?
“I haven’t made it yet.”
DAYUM!!!
And for reference, Gloria Steinem is 90 years old. 😉
I truly believe we are entering the era of the female.
And to quote Lizzo, “It’s about damn time.”
(By the way, I love a good quote… so you can expect to see a lot of those in this publication).
I’m on a mission to amplify, support, and encourage as many women as possible.
This is how we change the narrative.
The best way to do that is through open, honest, and empathetic conversations (that’s my request to you - let’s make this a two-way conversation).
I was initially going to make this a special series on my podcast, but the more I sat with this, the more I knew it needed a home and space of its own.
The Women, Wisdom, & Wealth Podcast will be live in late October 2024.
Not every issue or episode will be solely focused on women’s psychology of wealth. As the name suggests, we’ll also dive deep into the wisdom side of things.
I’ll talk with friends, mentors, businesswomen, authors, artists, athletes, chefs… you name it. I intend to focus on GenX and older women, but I also know plenty of younger women have powerful stories and life lessons to share.
I expect the publication to have a few iterations as I find out what resonates most with you, but you can expect a free issue every Wednesday. I have planned segments but may be playing with those as the publication grows.
The premium content for paying subscribers includes (but isn’t limited to):
Subscriber-only posts and full archive
Behind-the-Scenes Case Studies & Interviews
Post comments and join the community
The publication will always start with something original I’ve written, but the rest will be segments. Here’s a sampling of what you can expect from the segments:👇
Women You Should Know
Unfortunately, women have been left out of the majority of the narrative for far too long.
One of my favorite examples is the movie Hidden Figures, based on the nonfiction book by Margo Lee Shetterly. The book tells the story of the three Black female mathematicians (Katherine Goble Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn, and Mary Jackson) who helped us get to the moon (I’d go so far as to say it would have been much later had these women not been able to step up and share their genius).
I remember watching that movie and thinking, “Why didn’t we learn about these women in school?”
I’ll share stories, facts, and information in the “Women You Should Know” segment.
Money Moves
I’ll share more of my story on the podcast and in the behind-the-scenes section, but as I dig deeper into my financial education, I’ll share what I learn as well as tips from other women (some of these tips may be accompanied by a doodle… visual learning goes a long way for me, so I’ll probably have some visual examples from time to time).
Note: what I share here will be specific to the US, so if you’re outside of the US and are familiar with something similar in your country, I’d love for you to share it.
Mindset Matters
Everything starts from within, doesn’t it?
Our mindset is one of the few things we can control, but it takes conscious choice, commitment, and practice. Over the last twenty years, I’ve learned so much about mindset, energy, and the power of the mind, which has 100% changed my life.
I may share a quote, an exercise, a question, a story, or a meme here that sums up something we’ve all felt at one time or another.
Book Recommendation (Smart Reads? Still working on the name for this)
Kind of self-explanatory. 😉
I’ll differentiate the category (novel, non-fiction, business, spiritual, etc.) and what I liked about it and share a link.
Inspiration
If you’ve made it this far, thank you.
I tend to favor long-form content. While I occasionally enjoy shorter-form content, my default is longer content. I enjoy creating it and consuming it.
I’m at a stage in my life where ease is my priority.
I prefer going deeper.
I’m done optimizing every minute of every day to squeeze out maximum productivity. As much as I appreciate checking things off my list, I enjoy being present and soaking up the joy of the moment I’m in more.
Which includes a good cup of coffee and something good to read.
I hope this becomes that for you => something good to read with one of your favorite beverages.
Cheers,
Kim
p.s. I tend to lean towards self-deprecating humor and sarcasm, so you can also expect to see that sprinkled in.
I've been waiting patiently for someone to start talking about this and you are the perfect person.
