The Wealth We Find in Each Other
Connection Isn't Just Good for the Soul - It's a Catalyst for Abundance
Last week, something happened that made me giddy.
Something that reminded me why I do what I do - and actually served as fuel to amplify my mission.
I had been following her on Substack for a bit, leaving comments here and there. Then, when another friend shared her story, I left yet another comment and had to tell her, “I swear I’m not stalking you; we’re just kindred spirits.”
To which she replied, “We should Zoom.”
And by “her” I’m referring to the brilliant
- creator of .Fast-forward a couple of direct messages: I shared that I was looking at moving to Spain or Portugal next year. She lives in Scotland, the US, Italy, and the Bahamas, and said we should definitely chat, which is exactly what we did last week.
This got me thinking:
Wealth doesn’t begin in our bank accounts.
It begins in our bodies — in what happens when we feel supported, safe, and seen.
That’s what I want to talk about today.
There’s a shift that happens inside us when we feel genuinely supported.
And I don’t mean the performative, “you go girl” kind of support that gets tossed around online like glitter confetti (as much as I appreciate that energy).
I mean true resonance — the kind where you feel like someone gets your work, your weirdness, your why, and where they listen without fixing.
Where they see you with kind eyes.
Here’s what I’ve learned through both neuroscience and lived experience:
Support doesn’t just feel good. It changes your brain.
When we feel safe and connected, our brains release oxytocin, the bonding hormone. This softens fear, lowers stress (cortisol), and makes us more receptive to new possibilities.
Financially, this matters more than we realize, because so many of us operate from old fear-based programming. When someone validates our ideas or believes in us, it can literally disrupt those well-worn neural pathways that whisper “be careful” or “don’t get too big.”
We start to make different choices.
More generous. More bold. More self-honoring.
This isn’t just feel-good theory.
It’s measurable.
Research shows that when women are supported — emotionally or financially — we multiply that impact:
Women reinvest up to 90% of their income into families and communities (compared to 30–40% for men).
Female entrepreneurs are more likely to start businesses with a social mission.
Simple actions — like sharing another woman’s work — can shift her financial trajectory.
You’ve probably felt this, too:
That one DM of encouragement that gave you the guts to raise your rates.
That referral that led to a dream client.
That moment when someone said, “You’re really good at this,” and you believed them.
These moments matter.
They change our beliefs, our behaviors — and eventually, our bank accounts.
Why This Is Also About Healing
For many of us, money has long felt like a private burden—something we had to figure out alone, tinged with shame, comparison, or “shoulds.”
But when we talk about money together, especially in safe, supportive spaces, something powerful happens.
We rewrite the script.
We normalize women's having, spending, sharing, and growing wealth—not just to prove something but because we’re reshaping the world.
The more supported you feel, the more generous you become with your ideas, creativity, pricing, and voice.
That’s not mindset fluff.
That’s neuroplasticity in action — your brain creating new, empowered pathways with every conversation.
Want to Feel More Abundant?
Start Here.
Here are a few ways to create wealth-building connections this week — no spreadsheets required (for those of us who cringe a bit with spreadsheets):
🌀 Send the message. That woman whose content you’ve been loving? Tell her. You never know what doors may open.
🌀 Be generous with intros. One five-minute introduction could change someone’s year.
🌀 Start a low-key connection circle. No pressure, no pitches. Just a monthly chat with women in adjacent spaces.
🌀 Audit your feed. Follow women who reflect what’s possible, not just what’s polished.
🌀 Practice receiving. Compliments. Support. Payment. Let it in.
Wealth isn’t something we hoard. It’s something we expand by sharing.
So here’s your gentle reminder for the week:
✔️ You’re allowed to want big things.
✔️ You’re allowed to need support.
✔️ And you’re absolutely allowed to thrive through connection.
Because the truth is, we don’t build meaningful wealth in isolation.
We build it in conversation.
In community.
In the quiet, brave moments when we reach out and say,
“I see you.”
And someone says,
“I see you too.”
A Woman You Should Know
Tiffany Dufu – Founder of The Cru and author of Drop the Ball
Tiffany is on a mission to help women build circles of support that fuel their goals — personally and professionally. After working in the nonprofit space and serving as Chief Leadership Officer at Levo, she launched The Cru. This network connects women in curated groups to support each other’s growth (like a modern-day mastermind with soul).
Her book, Drop the Ball, is a rallying cry for ambitious women to stop trying to “do it all” and start asking for — and receiving — the support they deserve.
Money Moves
Here’s one small but powerful way to invite more support and possibility into your life this week:
Create a “Connection Rolodex.”
Make a list of women you admire, resonate with, or feel some sort of spark around. Doesn’t have to be huge — even five names are enough. Then reach out to one this week with no agenda. “Hey, I love what you’re doing and wanted to say hi.”
Let the magic unfold from there.
“Be open to everything and attached to nothing.”
